Ms. Crunk

“I’m a uniquely seasoned professional who loves bass, crunk music and hip hop culture.”

Besides her roles in A&R administration at the legendary Jive Records and as VP of Promotions for Crunk Magazine, this energetic woman has earned both an MBA and a Juris Doctor. Take all of this into consideration and it’s not hard to understand why Crunk Magazine’s Publisher immediately dubbed her as Ms. Crunk.

“You’ve got to be prepared,” Ms. Crunk proclaims when asked why she chose to get both a masters in business administration and a law degree at the same time. “I didn’t want to jump headfirst (into the entertainment industry) with no backbone. I wanted something to fall back on and some credentials. I knew I wanted to work in the entertainment industry, even though I didn’t know in what capacity. I figured, I’d get all the education out of the way and then figure out where I wanted to be.”

From the alluring photos displayed on her MySpace page (myspace.com/sweetjustice06), Ms. Crunk clearly had other options for getting her foot in the door. As a model, who also has a few acting gigs under her belt, Her Royal Crunkness chose her career path quite strategically.

In a recent interview, I managed to gain a little insight into what makes the judicious, beautiful and gifted Ms. Crunk…well, crunk:

CRUNK: How did you end up in A&R at Jive Records?

Ms. Crunk: After Kevin Shine was tapped (for A&R Consultant) by Wayne Williams, Sr. V.P. of Jive Records; Kevin immediately pulled me in with him.

CRUNK: What kinds of projects are you currently working on?

MC: We’re looking for songwriters, producers and artists. Two out of three of our projects have launched so far. The first launch was called Writing Sessions Live in the Studio. It provided an opportunity for producers and songwriters to get their music heard by top industry execs. We take submissions, listen to them and select 10-15 to play their music in a room full of industry execs, top artists and producers who can open doors. Anyone interested can submit to WritingSessionsLive@gmail.com or at my email address, TheOfficialMsCrunk@yahoo.com. Also, we offer the Premier A&R showcase which focuses more on artists.

CRUNK: I’ve heard that you also have your own company. Can you tell our readers a little about it?

MC: Yes, it’s called Too Fresh Entertainment and I started it while in law school mainly to help a friend who had bad management. A lot of my projects start out because I want to help someone and I hate seeing people being taken advantage of. Now, my company focuses on artist management and I manage comedians as well.

CRUNK: What are some of your future goals?

MC: I really am focusing on growing our Atlanta programs and I want to start my own magazine. I’m also looking for about 5 or 6 models to take under my belt. Because I have a lot of experience in this industry, I’m looking forward to doing some consulting work too.

I’ve also been working with Billy Bad Ass, who’s over Urban Fashion Week, in some capacity. I was a judge in the Urban Fashion Week Walk Off at the Twelve Atlantic Station. I helped choose the top models to go to Paris for Fashion Week.

This is the year for the ‘Ms. Crunk Project’, meaning I’m focusing on all the different things I have my hands in and on making them grown exponentially.

LS: What parting advice do you have for our readers?

MC: Focus! Don’t lose focus on what you want to do. Everyone else is going to have an opinion of what you should be doing. For instance, I have an academic side and have worked with a judge and on a presidential campaign and everyone assumed I’d be corporate, but that just wasn’t me. The only way to be happy is to do you. And if bass makes you happy, keep loving it.
