DMV and Frederick, Maryland product J-Mill wants to make it to the top, as evident by the acronym of his stage name (Jamaal Makin It Livin Large). He chose this path because of his passion for hip hop.
Knowing that he wanted to pursue a rap career ever since he first heard the late rap icon Biggie Smalls, J-Mill decided to focus on rapping full-time upon graduating high school. Though a previous indy stint faded out, J-Mill learned from his rough beginnings. Through these struggles, J-Mill set his attentions on the corporate side of things, as he set out to be a businessman. He conquered this feat. His book, “The Official How To Rap Manual”, has sold over 400 copies independently. J-Mill is also the owner of How2rap.com, which has close to 7,500 page views, as well as the CEO of his own label, Streetz Certified Records.
Opening for acts like Trina, Ludacris, and Trey Songz and working with artists such as Roccett (USDA), Capone (CNN), and producer Hardley Davidson (Chamillionaire, Pretty Ricky, etc.) shows that this rapper is ready to take the next step. His track “Like Dat” off his 1st EP, 2008’s Certified Hustle (available on iTunes, Rhapsody, etc), is featured in the hit Rockstar Game Midnight Club: Los Angeles. J-Mill’s Watch Me mixtape is hosted by the legendary DJ Ron G. Skope Magazine recognized J-Mill as its "Artist 2 Watch." MySpace ranked him as a “Top 5 Indie Hip Hop Artist In Maryland.”
J-Mill has the drive to make some major noise in hip hop. He has sold nearly 1,000 units on iTunes independently, which span globally. He has a huge backing in DMV, as local radio stations and newspapers have featured him. His new mixtape Illa Gorilla, which is hosted by DJ 5150, is coming soon.
