Think about urban environments today. Streets lined with busy people, and the never ending hustle and bustle. Not exactly the type of scene where you would expect to find royalty. Well there’s where you would be wrong. Taking its cue from contemporary street wear AKOO is a brand to watch, and expected to be a favorite with the King’s of modern day urbania. Aptly named, AKOO is an acronym for A King of Oneself. The brand was founded by Grammy award winning rapper TI and Grand Hustle Entertainment CEO Jason Geter. Its aesthetic approach seems to cater to, if not celebrate, the ambitious metropolitan spirit. The line offers some promising looks in its Summer 2010 Collection. Here are some top picks from the collection.

In denim, the Reynard Jean is a fresh take on a classic cut. The jeans have a loose, but not excessively baggy fit. This multipurpose style compliments everything from button-downs to tees.

Another favorite is the lightweight hooded sweater, called Quiver. This is a must-have layering piece. It looks great either buttoned or unbuttoned, hood up or hood down. You can really make this piece true to your sense of style.
The collection has plenty of shorts to choose from, and there is a pair for every taste. The Cambridge short is a simple cargo look. The Freedom short is a little more interesting with embroidered details. And for the trendsetter, there is the Sticks & Stones Plaid short.

AKOO is also looking to impact the male accessories market. The brand has launched two limited edition pieces, which are personal favorites of TI. The AKOO for G-Shock Chronograph watch is a statement piece in stark white with purple & gold accents. It features the AKOO insignia on the band. The impressive convertible Trail Satchel can double as a rucksack and includes a leather shoulder strap and gold hardware.

This collection, and the AKOO brand, certainly offers some of the best in contemporary urban inspired menswear. These top picks in apparel from the brand, as well as the accessories, are versatile enough to get you well into the fall and are just in time for Dad & Grad Gift season.
