Chanel, Shan Q, and Jazzy make up the all lady group called Krave who hail from Atlanta, Georgia. This group, produced by Devyne Stephens, has been hailed as the next TLC and they have been doing a lot of shows to get their name out there. I had a chance to interview this group and this is what they had to say:
CRUNK: Hey, how are you ladies doing and how long have you all been doing this singing and rap thing?
Jazzy: Well, I have been singing since I was little. My mom used to sing and my brother is also a rapper. Even though I am the black sheep in a musical family, there must be something in my blood because I am out here singing now.
Shan Q: Yeah, I am the rapper of the group and I have been into rapping since the days of YoYo, Lauren Hill, and the days of TLC. We are in our twenties so I have heard a lot of good female rappers in my time.
CRUNK: So how did you ladies link up and how did the group Krave come about?
Chanel: We have been friends since high school. We linked together and did talents shows and all of a sudden major producer Devyne Stephens came out to see one of our shows and he wanted to work with us. We’ve been highly influenced by artists of the past like Michael Jackson (R.I.P.), Xscape, The Fugees, and TLC. Krave is something Devyne came up it and he came up with it because it is something original like us.
Jazzy: It is a blessing to be in this because Devyne is responsible for the success of TLC and Ciara in the past. So we were shocked that he wanted to work with us but we worked hard to get here as well.
CRUNK: So how do you feel about people comparing you all to TLC? Do you feel like you got a lot of shoes to fill?
Shan Q: We like TLC but we are not trying to go into their direction. I rap and sometimes I sing plus we do a lot of dance moves in out show as well. We also have a lot of artist backing with us like Akon, Flo Rida, Twista, and Nelly. We have a lot of connections with Akon and our producer was responsible for a lot of big acts in Atlanta. A lot of known artists know our music like Mary J. Also, our new upcoming album is filled with a lot of known producers like Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, Rodney Jerkins, The Runners, and J Nibbs to name a few.
CRUNK: Cool. So what is the first single you all have dropped so far working with Devyne?
Jazzy: We actually dropped a few singles that you can check out on our MySpace. The website is myspace.com/kraveworldwide and we have several singles posted on the website. We have done some hot party tracks like Up & Down with Akon, Nelly, & Twista and Go Crazy featuring Flo Rida. We got a lot of other ones and we have been touring different states and about to film a music video soon for the group.
CRUNK: So when does the album drop and what the name of it? Also what upcoming projects do you all have coming out?
Jazzy: We are going to do a lot of touring. We are filming our shows in “4-D” with a company that is working with us which should be good. The album will be called Krave as far as I know because we want people to know us first. We also plan on going on tour and hopefully we can do that with Akon since he is linked to our group like that.
Shan Q: Yeah we are doing that 4-D project and maybe do some modeling as well.
CRUNK: Any last words to your fans or future fans?
Shan Q: Just look out for the album and have confidence in whatever you do in life.
Jazzy: Look out for us because we are here and check out our show when we come to your city. Also, never let anyone tell you that you cannot follow your dreams to do something.
Chanel: We would like to thank CRUNK for the interview and look out for our new album when it comes out in early 2010!
