CRUNKspiration

By: Laura Sands

Did you feel it? The entire universe just shifted and change is no longer on the horizon. Change is officially here.

Funny thing about being human is that, even when we want change, we’re often prone to resist it. We’re creatures of habit and change -- good or bad – lusted after or unimagined -- can be a liberating, uncomfortable, exhilarating, uncertain and challenging risk. Like leaving Egypt for a Promised Land, change can be a rough journey.

While we have just permanently altered the face of politics via our hunger for change, we have simultaneously entered into one of the most unstable economic eras since the Great Depression. The entire game has changed.

One of the first rules of the surviving this new climate of change is acceptance. Accepting the good is easy. Accepting the bad – not so much. Whether you’ve lost your job, your home or your entire life savings, the most crucial element of survival is to not linger on what you wish things were like or what you wish you’d done differently. Simply, accept what is. You don’t have to like it, but lamenting the past, or longing for a different present, only prolongs your discomfort. However, acceptance creates room for the clarity needed to keep you from losing your mind when life is moving fast. Change happens. You can become empowered by its lessons, determine to let it motivate you or you can let it destroy you. Your choice.

As we navigate the new landscape ahead of us, let’s make sure that we are prepared to adjust our minds so that we can adapt to uncomfortable changes. Let’s be sure that we not only ride the waves of the changes we want, but that we also don’t let unexpected changes in the tide pull us under.
